A "Thank You" Message

From Grace Macduff, March 2025...

Wow! What an amazing experience these past four years have been - all thanks to you, LWML Washington-Alaska District. I just completed my deaconess studies and received my certificate from Concordia Seminary St. Louis, and I can’t wait to begin working as a deaconess.

Five years ago, deaconess studies were not even on my radar. I had heard about the program through various LCMS events (including LWML conventions), but all the programs were on campus and expensive - huge barriers to me as I already was working full time in hairstyling and living near my family in eastern Washington.

Then came the ODS (Online Deaconess Studies) program. The issue with distance was suddenly eliminated. The only issue left was the money. While the seminary and district did have some financial aid, there was still a large bill I would have to cover on my own. I don’t know how exactly it all came about but someone encouraged me to apply for a scholarship through the LWML Washington-Alaska District and the rest is history.

The past four years have grown me as an individual and as a person becoming a called church worker. There have been ups and downs (there were some tears over the intensity of the studies and the direction I would go after graduation), but I’m so thankful for God’s provision and support through everyone in my life, especially you all! My plan is to continue working as a Ministries Coordinator, providing diaconal care and support to my local congregation in Kennewick, Washington.

Thank you, LWML, for the ability to follow God’s calling for my life more freely. I appreciate all your love and support. You do amazing work!   -Grace Macduff
